Food Security Programme

Food Security Stabilization Efforts

Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst hunger crises. Half of the population (24.6 million people) is facing high levels of acute food insecurity. This marks an unprecedented deepening and widening of the food and nutrition crisis, driven by the devastating conflict, which has triggered unprecedented mass displacement, a collapsing economy, the breakdown of essential social services, and severe societal disruptions, combined with poor humanitarian access. Food insecurity and malnutrition have reached these unprecedented levels of severity despite the mitigating effects of the ongoing harvest season.
Since the war Hadhreen Sudan has started the initiative to support community kitchens in Sudan and that has led to millions of meals distributed through several efforts.
Hadhreen remains committed to sustaining and expanding these vital community kitchens. With continued support from donors and partners, we aim to keep them running, reach more vulnerable families, and help prevent further hunger and suffering.

Hadhreen Sudan, in coordination with the World Food Programme (WFP), UNDP, Sudanese diaspora communities, and its international sister organization Hadhreen UK, will continue to support and expand community kitchens across Sudan. These collaborations are central to our strategy to strengthen food security and meet the escalating needs as the country endures one of its most severe humanitarian crises.

The community kitchens are a vital daily support for the people who remain resilient, offering food security amid unrest and famine. However, financial support is crutial to the continuation of these efforts.

Ramadan & Year-Round Food Support

As part of our broader feeding program, Hadhreen UK, in partnership with our sister organization Hadhreen Sudan, proudly implemented two core initiatives: the Daily Iftar Project – Ramadan and the Food Charity Project, both focused on providing nutritious meals and support to those most in need.

Daily Iftar Project – Ramadan

Throughout the holy month, our teams worked tirelessly to prepare and distribute nutritional Ramadan meals, Iftar tables, and Sahoor meals free of charge. The project aimed to ensure that fasting individuals across various segments of society had access to proper food and nourishment.
Key Beneficiaries Included:
• Healthcare workers and staff at COVID-19 treatment centers and public hospitals in Khartoum and Medani, including doctor messes and canteens in Khartoum North.
• Inmates at the Khartoum Boys’ Reformatory (Cooper Juvenile Center) and Soba Prison.
• University students residing in dormitories throughout Khartoum.
• Patient companions in government hospitals across Khartoum and cities such as Port Sudan, Kassala, Atbara, Rabak, Umm Rawaba, and Dongola, implemented in collaboration with local partners.
• Passengers and pedestrians in the Khartoum Landport area.
• Staff and students at Khartoum University’s Medical Complex.

Food Charity Project

Rooted in Sudanese traditions of sacrifice and giving, the Food Charity Project was launched to meet the growing number of requests—particularly from Sudanese families abroad—to distribute sacrificial meat to those in need.
Following a monetary donation, Hadhreen takes responsibility for the full process: purchasing, slaughtering, preparing, and distributing the meat. This support was extended to:
• Quranic school students
• Children at the Cancer Home, affiliated with the Kullana Giyyam Organization
